Language Editing & Proofreading Policy

Innovations in Plant and Environmental Sciences Research (IPESR)

To ensure clarity, readability, and high-quality scholarly communication, IPESR maintains the following language editing and proofreading standards for all submitted manuscripts.

1. Language of Publication

IPESR publishes manuscripts exclusively in English.

Authors are responsible for preparing manuscripts that are written in clear, grammatically correct, and academically appropriate English prior to submission.

2. Pre-Submission Language Requirements for Authors

Authors must ensure that their manuscripts:

  • Are free from grammatical, spelling, and typographical errors
  • Use scientific and technical terminology correctly and consistently
  • Demonstrate clear logical flow and coherence
  • Meet international academic writing and formatting standards

Authors may seek assistance from:

  • Qualified English-language editors
  • University writing centers
  • Professional language editing services

Use of third-party editing services is optional and does not guarantee acceptance.

3. In-House Editorial Proofreading

All manuscripts accepted for publication undergo editorial proofreading by the IPESR Editorial Office to ensure:

  • Consistency of terminology
  • Clarity and readability
  • Adherence to IPESR formatting and style guidelines
  • Correction of minor grammar, punctuation, and syntax issues

This step enhances quality but does not replace the author’s responsibility to submit a well-written manuscript.

4. Language Evaluation During Peer Review

During initial assessment and peer review:

  • Manuscripts with unclear language, poor sentence structure, or ambiguous scientific descriptions may be returned to authors for revision before full review.
  • Reviewers may request additional language improvement where necessary for scientific interpretation.
  • IPESR reserves the right to reject manuscripts requiring extensive language correction beyond the journal’s editorial capacity.

5. Post-Acceptance Proofreading

Once a manuscript is accepted:

  • The editorial team performs a final proofread for minor inconsistencies and errors.
  • Authors will receive proofs to review typographical mistakes, formatting issues, or minor inaccuracies introduced during typesetting.
  • Major rewriting or restructuring at this stage will not be undertaken by IPESR.
  • Authors must thoroughly review and approve their proofs before publication.

6. Responsibility and Transparency

Authors remain fully responsible for:

  • The accuracy, clarity, and linguistic integrity of their manuscripts
  • Ensuring that external editing services comply with ethical standards
  • Confirming that language edits do not alter the scientific meaning or originality of their work

IPESR does not endorse or recommend any specific commercial editing service, nor does it receive any financial benefits from such services.
